Use 3Guide with your own AI
Already have an AI assistant in your product? Keep it, and give it 3Guide's Guidance mode so it can show people how, on their screen.
Many products already have an AI assistant. It can answer questions, but it can't see the user's screen, so it can't show anyone where to click. 3Guide can.
There are two ways to connect them:
| What happens | Best when | |
|---|---|---|
| Your AI uses 3Guide for guidance | Your chat stays exactly as it is. When a user needs to be shown how, 3Guide works out the steps and plays them on the page. | You have your own chat UI and want on-screen guidance in it |
| 3Guide's assistant uses your data | 3Guide's own assistant fetches answers from your MCP server | You use 3Guide's chat and want it to answer from your systems |
Your AI uses 3Guide for guidance
Why it matters: your users keep the assistant they know, and it can now say "here, let me show you" and highlight the way on the live page. You don't add a second chat bubble or rebuild anything.
Load 3Guide headless
Add data-headless="true" to the Guidance script. 3Guide then draws nothing on its own: no bubble and no chat panel.
<script
src="https://cdn.3guideai.com/sdk/guideai.js"
data-guideai-bundle="guidance"
data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_ID"
data-token="pk_live_YOUR_TOKEN"
data-headless="true"
></script>Send "how do I…" questions to 3Guide
When a user asks how to do something in your app, pass the question to 3Guide from your chat code:
await window.guideai.ready()
const reply = await window.guideai.send('How do I export a report?', { mode: 'guidance' })
showInYourChat(reply.text)3Guide reads the page the user is on and uses your knowledge base to answer.
Play the walkthrough on the page
When the answer includes steps, play them. A good place is a Show me button in your chat:
if (reply.steps) {
await window.guideai.runWalkthrough(reply.steps, reply.title)
}3Guide highlights each step on the live page, the same way its own chat does.
What comes back
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
text | The answer, ready to show in your chat |
steps / title | The walkthrough steps, already matched to elements on the live page |
demo | A Guide Pro demo to play, when one answers the question |
navigation | A page the answer wants to take the user to |
escalation | Set when the user should be handed to a person |
More you can do
| Call | What it does |
|---|---|
guideai.send(text, { mode: 'assistant' }) | Ask 3Guide's Assistant instead, if you've connected your API |
guideai.assistantAvailable | true if Assistant mode can answer on this site |
guideai.runWalkthrough(steps, title) | Play steps, from a reply or ones you saved earlier |
guideai.navigateTo(url) | Take the user to a page |
guideai.chat.on('message', fn) | Follow the conversation as it happens, e.g. to stream text into your UI |
Which questions should go to 3Guide?
Send questions about where something is or how to do it on screen ("where do I change my plan?", "how do I add a teammate?"). Keep questions about data and your business ("how many orders did I get?") with your own AI.
3Guide's assistant uses your MCP server
This works in the other direction. If you have an MCP server, 3Guide's Assistant can call it to answer questions such as "when is my next payout?".
Why it matters: 3Guide calls your server directly with a service key you give it. Your users' sign-in tokens never pass through the browser for these calls.
Register the server with your Admin API Key (sk_live_…). Its tools are discovered automatically:
curl -X POST https://api.3guideai.com/api/v1/copilot-tools \
-H "X-API-Key: sk_live_YOUR_ADMIN_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"name": "Northwind data",
"source": "mcp",
"base_url": "https://tools.example.com/mcp",
"auth_config": { "type": "api_key", "header": "X-Service-Secret", "key": "YOUR_SECRET" }
}'3Guide connects when you save and reads your server's tool list, so a wrong URL or secret fails right away rather than on a user's first question. If you add tools later, send PATCH with {"rediscover": true} to read the list again.
MCP connections are set up through the API only for now. They don't appear in Copilot Tools in the dashboard yet.
